Scrapbooking can be fun at any age and it can also be a family affair. Of course scrapbooking supplies will vary according to the age of the child using the scrap booking supplies.
For younger children (between the ages of 6-9) creating a scrapbook can be a magical thing, they are more likely to get very creative. You can let them use leftover scrapbooking supplies such as patterned paper or cardstock (this will minimize expense) for their scrap booking projects. Keep their scrap booking supplies simple. Make sure that they use safety-tip scissors and a cutter can only be used with adult supervision. They can use scrap booking supplies such as stencils and a pencil to draw different shapes and gluing them on can be done with an acid-free glue stick. You will probably want them to use a smaller scrap booking album (8 ½" x 11"). You can also teach them how to journal by drawing lines onto a scrap booking page with a pencil (make sure to keep journaling simple also). Children love to use stickers for scrap booking. If they are using border scrap booking stickers that are long be sure to cut them in half so that they will be easier for them to handle.
For older children (ages 10 to 13) the scrapbooking supplies that they use can be more advanced. Let them use scrap booking supplies such as: decorative scissors, corner punches, scrap booking templates and photo stickers or photo corners to create their scrap booking designs.
Teenagers know what they want and are not afraid to go out on a limb to create different and new scrapbooking pages. Most teens have their own collection of pictures (of friends and or events),which are perfect for scrap booking projects.
Set aside one night a month to have a family crop and create a family scrapbook. The family will have fun sharing ideas and creating scrap booking pages together. Not only will the family scrapbook album be treasured by all but so will the family memories created while spending time together during the scrap booking process.
